The XIX century building in the style of Tudor Gothic was to serve as a hunting castle of Landgraves of Hesse-Homburg, but was never used for its intended purpose. During construction, there was an accident, and the Landgrave refused to come here. The building changed owners and the elements of its appearance.
Today, the city archives, the city’s and the landgraviate’s cafe and the museum are at the Gothic House. The museum has a collection dedicated to the famous Homburg hats and all these headwear in general, a coin collection and exhibits on the city’s history. The archive has an exhibition of old city newspapers and photographs open to the public. There is a garden of sculptures around the house.
