The ancientGödens Castle, surrounded by water on all sides, is just a 15-minute drive fromJever. The brick building in the Dutch Renaissance style was built back in theXVI century and retained the spirit of its time in spite of severalrestorations. To feel the constrained atmosphere of this architectural marvel, youshould examine everything in the complex. The wonderful park with geometricallycorrect paths, the castle’s pointed turrets, the castle ditches reflecting inthe water and the ornate paintings in the main hall are also here. In earlyautumn, when the leaves in the garden begin to be colored in different shadesof yellow and crimson, open-air concerts are held here.
Gödens Castle is the living residence of Baronvon Wedel, and so, unfortunately, is not always open to the public. You canwalk in the castle garden (Schlosspark) during the day, from Monday to Friday. The owners of the castle welcome guests during the festival of landscape art, various public celebrations and the Christmas holidays. In December the castleis open to tourists every day. Its territory hosts an interesting market of traditionalholiday souvenirs and farm products.
