Giebichenstein Castle, more precisely, its ruins are on the high bank of the Saale river, in the city of Halle. Back in the X century there was a fortress with a favourable location here. The residence of the archbishops of Magdeburg was in Giebichenstein Castle until Moritzburg Castle was built. Later, a brewery was opened in the former residence of the bishops and even people began to make wine in it. During the Thirty Years' War, the castle was almost completely destroyed and never rebuilt. Today its ruins look quite picturesque.
In the 20-s of the twentieth century, the building of Giebichenstein’s University of Art and Design (Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle) was built in Halle. Today, it hosts various interesting events: exhibitions, seminars and concerts, which are open to anyone for visiting. Beautiful views of the city and surrounding area open from the Giebichenstein hill, so this is a must-visit place.
