Directions

Georgium castle was built in classical style forGeorg, the younger brother of the Duke Leopold III. Today it hosts Anhalt artgallery with paintings of old German and Dutch masters and a collection ofgraphic art. In 1946 items of art from the gallery were taken to the USSR.Later a considerable part was returned to Dessau, that’s why today here you cansee works by Bruegel, Dürer, Cranach the Elder. 

 

In the Englishpark surrounding the castle some sculptures, a summerhouse in the shape of anIonic temple and replica of Ancient Roman ruins have been preserved. Georgiumborders with the Mausoleum Park where the burial vault of the dukes of Anhaltis located in a neo-Renaissance building with an egg-shaped dome. However thereare no remains inside, as the authorities of German Democratic Republicre-buried them at a common cemetery.
