This Elberfeld Town Hall is the second town hall. The first one was built here in 1842. The museum of the dynasty von der Heydt was opened in it in 1902. This building of dark stone appeared in 1900. The opening of the town hall was attended by Wilhelm II - the last German Emperor. The four-storey building with a mansard is completed with a 79-meter tower with a copper peaked roof and a big clock with a bell fight. When in 1929 Elberfeld became only a district of Wuppertal, the Town Hall ceased to be a "home" for the city authorities. Today, it accommodates the social divisions of the district administration.
