The Dragon Lake is located in the Bavarian Furth im Wald, known as the "City of Dragons". The town, which every year widely celebrates the deliverance from the dragon (Drachenstich Festival), also has a Dragon Museum and a Dragon Cave. Recently, a "Dragon Lake" appeared in Furth as well. By the decision of the town authorities, part of the Chamb river waters was assigned in 2009 to the artificially created quarry. Water covered the area of 175 hectares. Now this is the favorite resting place of Furth residents and one of the town's attractions.
Besides creating an artificial reservoir, the municipal government managed to create a unique microhabitat for various birds and fish, as well as a large infrastructure for recreation: equipment for water sports, camping and cafés. The Dragon Lake quickly became popular also among the yachting lovers. Cyclists are very fond of walking along the shore, luckily the coastline along the lake perimeter is 10 km. It is perfect for cycling lovers. In the summer the Dragon Lake is a venue for many music festivals in the open air.
