It would seem a small and young town like Traunreut could not have a significant cultural center. However, it has DASMAXIMUM. This is a unique place. The Pinakothek-the second biggest in Bavaria after Munich- and the Brandhorst Museum with the collection of the American Contemporary Art are concentrated here!
The first impression of the DASMAXIMUM Museum is deceptive. You get confused by its building -a low hangar. But this hangar stores real treasures of the new American Art, which has already become classical. The names presented here include Andy Warhol, Dan Flavin, Georg Baselitz, John Chamberlain, Walter de Maria and many others. The halls are decorated with the latest technology and are well-lit. It is rather easy to spend an hour here studying the American art of the second half of the XX century.
