Gothic Church of St. John the Baptist is the oldest Catholic Church in Neumarkt. Johann von Pfalz himself was in charge of the construction of the church. He came to power in the Upper Palatinate in 1410. Thanks to him, the grand construction was completed in 1434. The architectural features of the temple suggest that two different architects were involved in the construction. The first was more inclined to refined and rigorous forms, which distinguish the western part of the temple. The second architect rather preferred the artsy style.
A distinctive feature of the Church of St. John the Baptist is the 72-meter tower, crowned with an octagonal dome. It served as a patrol. Up until 1908 a watchman lived there, whose duty was, inter alia, to keep an eye open for fires and enemies approaching the city. There is an octagonal fountain in front of the church with the statue of St. George slaying the dragon in its center. It was built in 1984 on the site of the chapel demolished in the XIX century, which was dedicated to Saint George.
