Too big a castle for the small town was built in the early Baroque style for Frederick II on the foundation of a medieval fortress in the late XVII century. The residence of Landgrave Friedrich II is the embodiment of his vanity. The monarch wanted to live not only in an impregnable, but also in a luxurious castle. The 48m-high White Tower of the XIV century was included in the palace complex. The White Tower became the symbol of Bad Homburg. Subsequently, the family of Kaiser Wilhelm II also valued the castle and made it their summer residence.
The museum halls with original interior remind of the castle atmosphere in which the august personages lived. At the entrance to the Royal wing two Lebanese cedars, planted in the early XIX century, have survived. The terrace of the castle is overlooking the vast park, consisting of several themed gardens, and the White Tower offers views of Mount Taunus.
