Casimirianum is a prestigious and well-known high school. Moreover, it is known not only in Coburg, but throughout Bavaria and even in Germany. People study the humanities and the focus is on foreign languages in it, like many centuries ago. Many famous lawyers, scientists, politicians and other famous people, including the great father Goethe studied here.
The school building is an outstanding example of the Northern Renaissance. It appeared in the center of Coburg, close to the ancient Church of St. Moritz (Sankt-Moritz-kirche) at the beginning of the XVII century at the behest of Duke Johann Casimir and took his name. The Duke’s statue adorns the facade of the gymnasium. This is one of the most beautiful buildings in the historic center of Coburg- elegant and graceful.
