The construction of the Capuchin Monastery inOffenburg lasted seven years and ended in 1647. The complex miraculouslysurvived a fire in 1689, but was abandoned in 1803. From 1822 to 1901, thebuilding housed a gymnasium, then the notary office.
In the baroque chapel of the Monastery of St. Matthias you can see themassive wooden altar of the late Baroque and the organ of 1822. The beautifullate Gothic statue of the Madonna is in the Church of St. Mary. The monastery,including the picturesque arcade with wooden columns, was fully restored in themid-1980s.
