Bergedorfer Castle is unique, as there are no other castles in Hamburg. In the city of merchants practicality was appreciated and people were not into high-profile construction. It is known that Count Albrecht von Ornamund built a two-storey building here on the Bille river in the XIII century, which then belonged to Hamburg and Lübeck for several centuries, and since 1867 it has only belonged to Hamburg. The 30m*30m castle has four wings, massive towers and a moat across with a double bridge. Today, it houses the museum of Bergedorf region. It also hosts wedding ceremonies and classical music concerts.
