The AutoMuseum Volkswagen appeared earlier than the"Autostadt", in 1985. It occupies the premises of the former textilefactory near the Volkswagen plant. The exhibition includes 130 "people'scars". These are the brand products, moreover, the cars on display are notglossy factory samples but historic cars, as well as prototypes andnon-standard models.
The AutoMuseum Volkswagen stores, in particular, a Beetle, pasted with 50 thousandstamps, carved from wood and wattled, as well as military, police, firefighting vehicles and motor-sport icons. There are also models of historicalsignificance. For example, milestone cars and so-called"kommandeurwagens" manufactured in 1940 for the UK, which had control over Wolfsburg at that time. Two modified exhibitshave an unusual history: Messina-Käfer – Beetle, which overcame afloat a 7kilometer long Strait of Messina in Italy in 1964, and another Beetle, transformed in 1995 into a basket of the air balloon.
