Every detail in this settlement on the Mathildenhöhe hill, from the house plan to a decoration pattern on a doorknob, was designed by the first and last tenants – seven painters and sculptors. The majority of houses and residence of the duke Ernst-Ludwig who invited the artists were created in the end of the 19th – the beginning of the 20th century with drafts of Josef Olbrich who had constructed the building of the Vienna Secession. The duke’s residence is turned into the colony’s museum dedicated to its creators. It exhibits items of furniture, architectural models as well as advertising posters of exhibitions in the colony, where the houses were the exhibits.
