The main Muslim temple of Tatarstan is the Kul Sharif Mosque in Kazan. It is a re-created mosque of the Kazan Khanate of the XVI century. The original mosque was destroyed in 1552 by the troops of Ivan the Terrible. A modern temple was being built near the Kazan Kremlin for ten years. The total of 400 million rubles of donations were spent for its construction.
The Kul Sharif Mosque is a grandiose and at the same time quite elegant building with four minarets, the height of which is 58 meters. One and a half thousand believers can be present in the mosque simultaneously. Certainly one needs to look at the interior of the mosque. Here one can see the Urals marble, and Iranian carpets, and an amazing mosaic, and a two-ton crystal chandelier from the Czech Republic. There are two special balconies for excursions under the ceiling of the main hall.
