The opening date of Kazan Federal University is 1804. This University is one of the ten oldest ones in Russia. The grandiose architectural complex of the university occupies a whole block on Kremlevskaya Street.
The main building of Kazan Federal University in the classic style of the XIX century was designed by the prominent Russian mathematician Nikolai Lobachevsky. A special attention here deserves the ensemble of the university library, anatomy theatre and observatory. Free guided tours around the University are held. During these tours one can sit at Vladimir Ulyanov-Lenin's desk, look at Kazan from the 14th floor of a skyscraper and visit the museum of this educational institution housed in a former university church.
