House-Museum of Rasputin - in the homeland of the mythical old man

The House-Museum of Rasputin stands in the village of Pokrovskoe, which is 80 kilometers east from Tyumen on the road to Tobolsk. Here in 1869 Grigory Rasputin was born in a coachman's family - a mysterious old man who had a great influence on the last Russian imperial family of the Romanovs and who died in St. Petersburg at the hands of high-ranking conspirators.

The house of Grigory Rasputin was demolished in 1980 and only the wooden platbands, created according to his sketches, remained. And in 1991 a married couple Marina and Vladimir Smirnov built a house-reconstruction opposite the former house of the elder, where they opened a private museum. They did a great job and found several items that belonged to the house of Rasputin as well as exhibits from the period of his life at the palace: the plates for the engagement of the imperial couple with their personal monograms, Rasputin's photographs and his Viennese chair, to which the healing properties are ascribed. There are books about Rasputin in different languages and samples of goods using his name as a brand in the museum. In 2010 the museum received the "Best Regional Museum of the Year" award.
