The Water Tower, locatedon the Friedrichsplatz is the symbol of the city. It was built in 1886. The towerheight - 60 meters - gave it the right to be called the tallest building intown at the time! The buildings in the Art Nouveau style were highlyappreciated immediately. Bing made of brownstone with sculptures ofmythological characters on the perimeter it resembles a construction typical ofthe French capital. It originally served as municipal drinking water reservoir.But with the change of the water supply system of the city, there was no moreneed for the direct use of the tower. Today the Tower is a popular meetingplace for locals and an excellent reference point for tourists, as it can beseen from afar.
