Until 1920 Kassel was one of the leading manufacturers of wallpaper in Europe, so hundreds of exhibits have accumulated for the museum. Here you can see wallpaper from the Middle Ages to the present day, simple and with designer ideas, waxed and leather, gold-plated and oilcloth, panoramic and photo wallpaper, Chinese and German, factory-supplied and handmade. The pride of the Wallpaper Museum is the XIX century’s panoramic wallpaper, which illustrates the battle of Austerlitz. The subject of wallpaper production is also disclosed: the exhibition has vintage machines for the production of wall coverings.
