The Hochfirst Mountainoverlooks the lake Titisee. Its height is1192 meters. In fine weather the Swiss and Austrian Alps may be seen from itstop, and the most eagle-eyed claim they can see even the Mont Blanc. However, it was not enough for the locals, and in 1888 theyerected a viewing tower on the top of Hochfirst.
The tower was made of wood and stood only two years, since a windstormpulled it down. Given the bitter experience, the next viewing tower was builtof steel and fastened on a stone base. This tower stands up to now. Itsobservation deck offers a beautiful view of the lake Titiseeand its surroundings. The tower height is 25 meters, and you need to overcome123 steps to get to the top. Not long ago, the tower was closed for repairs, but in March 2015 it was re-opened to the public. A nominal fee of 1 Euro ischarged for the right to climb the tower.
