“Deep Adit” Mining and Inhalatorium Museum
There is an unusual museum called “Deep Adit”at some distance from the center of Aalen, on the Braunenberg hill. This is aformer iron ore mine, which can be visited to get an idea about the work of theminers. A beautiful brick arch with the bust of Kaiser Wilhelm I “meets” the visitorsat the entrance to the underworld. The cars of the times, when workers with sweatingfaces were working there, are also in their place.
Thereis a railway in the former mine, travelling on which you can see theunderground exhibition. It contains historical documents, utensils of the earlytwentieth century and the underground passages. There is an inhalatorium insideone of the rooms for patients with asthma. This wellness center has been opensince 1989. The specially created microclimate in it is useful for peoplesuffering from problems of the respiratory tract, skin and the nervous system(atopic dermatitis), as there is no dust or allergens underground, so thecondition of the patients quickly improves here. Quiet therapy is also practiced(Ruhetherapie).
