The Kassel man, who is decisively walking up on an inclined 25-meter steel pole, has its "paternal" brothers in Germany: "Hammering Man" in Frankfurt and "Molecule Man" in Berlin. The sculpture also has a twin-sister in Strasbourg: the sculpture “Woman Walking to the Sky” looks exactly like the “Man Walking to the Sky”. American sculptor Jonathan Borofsky brought his work to Kassel in 1992 within the frames of the Documenta festival. The city bought the sculpture, but it took some time to set it up. The man on the pole welcomes Kassel’s guests in front of the station building. Locals call the sculpture Himmelsstürmer, that is «Conqueror of the sky".
